10 Things

keep-calm-and-plan-events-5While a majority of the readers on here know something about me, I thought it would be a neat post to give you a little more information on the "Blonde" from Just a Blonde in Buffalo...here are 10 facts about me that you may not have known.

1. I love volunteering and believe its more rewarding to give back then to receive.

2. I love spending time with my 2 1/2 year old niece. She is the coolest, prettiest, and smartest kid I know and I would choose spending time with her over some adults I know.

3. I love, love, love, to plan events. I love to take an idea and see it come to life. Its so rewarding and I am so lucky to be doing what I love.

4. At times I can be to serious of a person. I have to remember to take a step back sometimes.

5. I'm a control freak. I think everyone has a little OCD in them. ;)

6. I don't know how to handle compliments, while I love creating and putting events together, I am a shy person and don't like attention put on me.

7. If I wasn't an event planner, I would either be an elementary school teacher or start a children's non-for-profit organization.

8. One of my favorite quotes is "everything happens for a reason" because it sure does. I'm a big believer in going after your dreams no matter how big they are. Some think I'm crazy, but I'm just me.

9. I love food. I love to try new places. So if there's a new restaurant in town that opened up you can bet I'll be there.

10. I love Buffalo, NY (that was a given) but outside of the football season and having the Ralph be me favorite place in the area, one of my favorite places to go in Buffalo is the Waterfront, its so peaceful and a great place to go on a nice day.

A Creative Way To Display Your Cards

We all receive cards for a variety of reasons, whether it be birthdays, weddings, graduations, sympathy, or just because. If you're like me, you keep some cards because they have some sort of sentiment value to them, it could be from a Grandparent, an achievement, or you just simply like the card. Whatever the case, its something for you to look back on. A few weeks ago I was cleaning and came across my "box of cards" that I have held onto throughout the years. I thought it would be neat to make a book out of the special cards that have meant something to me and display them along side my scrapbooks. Below is the process of how it was created.

Supplies needed: 3 ring hole puncher, cards and

Step One: Punch holes into the cards

Step Two: Insert the cards into the binder ring

Step Three: Close the binder ring and enjoy your card book

Some pictures are worth a few words...

My inspiration through words Sometimes you just need something to remind you why you do what you. A majority of what I write about on this blog is about Buffalo, but every now and then I like to write about things that can encourage people and in this day and age I think everyone can use a little bit of that. I put together this picture - a list of words that mean the most to me for some reason or another and the puzzles pieces represent pieces of events in my life that have linked up and somehow connected. I am a big believer that everything happens for a reason and at the end of the day it all works out, just stay true to yourself.

Buffalo, NY - A Comeback City?

Standing in the street in front of City Hall I believe in Buffalo

On Sunday, Buffalo Magazine published there latest edition with the headline, "Is Buffalo Back?" Throughout the article there were topics that touched on the waterfront, downtown development, Main St. and so on.

While Buffalo (statistically) is not one of the best cities around, it once was an area that thrived. As we work to build the area back to a place that intrigues people to come visit and to have students stay here after they graduate, I think this area is on the right path to great things.

Nothing happens overnight, but if we have people (the right people) that believe in this city and believe in this area's future, Buffalo can be a "Comeback City". We already have some pretty great things in this area (architecture, food, events, etc.) now we just have to make people know about them.

What are your thoughts? Did you read Buffalo Magazine's article? Do you think Buffalo is on the right path to be a thriving city once again? What are some of the best things you like about this area? What are some of the things you don't like?

I'm curious to know...

Buffalo: City of Good Neighbors

Bringing a little cheer to someone's day

The last few days I have been feeling under the weather and yesterday the worst thing could have happened - I was sent home from work. Today I came in to find a platter of cookies sitting on my desk. My co-workers thought I could use a little "cheering" up, knowing I'm a "work-alcoholic" and that I hate missing a day off they thought it would bring a smile to my face.

While not a lot of people think Buffalo is a great city because we lack jobs, are sports teams haven't been that great, and there's never anything to do, when you drive into town you will see a sign that says "City of Good Neighbors." This morning just reaffirms to me why we are a city of good neighbors... whether we are helping shovel people out of there driveways during a snowstorm, or coming together to help raise money for a family who had a house fire, to a simple platter of cookies to brighten someones day, its the little things that count. Buffalo is a community that comes together not just in times of need, but everyday.

Where's the snow?!?

Buffalo is known for its cold temperatures and lake effect snow, but between last year and this years winter season, we have had mildly warm temps and not a lot of the white stuff. Today alone temperatures are in the mid 50's and look like there staying that way for the rest of the weekend. While its great weather for taking down the leftover Christmas decorations or going for a nice run or walk, you can bet those skiers and snowboarders in WNY are not liking this weather at all. Hey, I don't blame them. I grew up in Buffalo and expect snow during the winter months, not this 50 degree weather. I hope Mother Nature is listening and brings back that white stuff...at least for the next few weeks. -B

My inspiration over a cup of coffee

Coffee I'm sure all of us have someone out there that has inspired us or encouraged us at some point in our lives to pursue a dream or goal of ours. As I was meeting with my mentor this afternoon for a cup of coffee, I started to think back to where I am in my career and where it all had started. My mentor after all is the one who helped me jump start my career, helped me get my foot in the door to many places and taught me so much on how to be creative and implement successful events. Though we don't get to see each other all the time, every time I do meet with her, she always seems to provide me with insight as to where I can take my career, offers me advice and guidance and lifts my spirits when I'm feeling down. Even if she doesn't plan on doing it, she does. She's an inspiration to me whether she knows it or not. After our meeting, it got me to thinking that all of us have the opportunity to inspire someone in our lives to follow their dreams. All of us should try it, I believe the reward will be fulfilling. -B

Burn Baby Burn

I am a big proponent of taking care of your health and exercising. I workout at least 3 to 4 times a week not because I'm a health nut, but more because exercising is a way for me to relieve the stress in my life and just unwind. Most of the time I workout by myself, but every once and a while I like to change it up and try something new with my routine. This evening I went to one of my favorite fitness centers in the Elmwood Village: BikeorBar. This business started off by offering a variety of different spin classes and has now grown into offering a wide variety of classes from circuit training, to rowing and pilates, to kickboxing, and so much more. Tonight my friend and I took the CrosSpin class with Em Jay. She's an awesome instructor, plays great music, is tough, but you'll feel great after her classes. If you're ever in the area or looking to change up your workout, check this place out.

New Year, New Buffalo Bills

75340_485756754796011_1473086882_n

I came across this quote earlier today and thought it would be appropriate to post for this time of year. It's the second day of 2013 and I am always curious to hear people's New Years resolutions; seeing if these resolutions are anything out of the ordinary losing weight, saving money, etc. or if its something different. I'm also curious to see how long people stick with their resolutions. I'm a goal oriented person and one who believes that if you want to change something about yourself or do something different you don't need to wait for the new year to do it.

On that note, here in Buffalo, a day before the New Year hit, the Buffalo Bills did something a lot of people in town knew they were going to do... they fired their Head Coach, Chan Gailey, but then what was interesting was the next day, the owner, Ralph Wilson, started the New Year off by giving all power to Russ Brandon (President and CEO). I think its a great move and Mr. Brandon deserves this opportunity. He comes off as a man who will get the job done and won't make any excuses if something goes wrong. The Buffalo Bills Organization is moving forward and it will be interesting to see what the rest of 2013 holds for this football team.

Not every situation is an ideal one, but if you look at it with the attitude that you can make it better or make it work you'll go a lot farther in 2013 than you ever expected.

Last Snowy Saturday in 2012

snow305[1]As we get ready to end another year, the start of this weekend in Buffalo seems to begin the way it should -with the snow falling on the ground and everyone preparing for their New Year's Eve Festivities. Take a minute to reflect back on all the things that happened in 2012. Some may be good, others bad, but always strive to be better than yesterday. Have a great weekend. Stay safe. See you in 2013! -B

Hello world!

Hello World! My name is Beth and I've grown up in Buffalo, NY all my life. One of my goals for 2013 was to start a blog (I know I'm a few days early) sharing with you, all things Buffalo related. From sports, to events, to fashion, food and more. A lot of people I speak with when I travel only think of Buffalo as being really cold and getting a lot of snow. I'm here to share the other exciting things this city has to offer, through my eyes, the way I see it. I hope you enjoy what I share! -B
